Gothenburg 2001 protestor acquitted! (28/9/04)

Maarten Blok, the Dutch activist who had been extradited to Sweden several weeks ago for his court case on supposedly hitting a police officer during the Gothenburg EU summit in June 2001, has been found not guilty and is back in Amsterdam again. We can't say exactly what the influence of support groups and protests have been in this case, but what we do know is that without the support from many people Maarten would have been convicted for something he didn't do. Most evidence has been delivered by people who wanted to fight against this injustice, and not by the juridical system. In June 2001 a range of demonstrators and activists took to the streets of Gothenburg in Sweden to protest against an EU summit there. During the protests there were serious clashes with the police, including cops opening fire with live ammunition. The Swedish authorities subsequently tried very hard to identify and prosecute those they believed were involved in rioting, and have handed out several prison sentences...

THE FOLLOWING IS INCLUDED FOR BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Three years on, on the 31st of August 2004, Dutch anti-globalisation activist, Maarten Blok, was arrested in Holland and on the 1st of
September 2004 he was handed over to the Swedish authorities for his alleged participation in the protests that occurred in Sweden in 2001.

The following is a statement from Maarten's supporters:

"In the morning of June 14, 2001, a European Summit began in Sweden, in the city of Gothenburg. Maarten had arrived in the city the previous night and had the bad luck to have chosen a place to sleep in a school provided by the city council that on that morning was surrounded by the police for a mass arrest of all the people (more than 450) who happened to be in that place at that time. He was arrested and deported to
the Netherlands.

About four months later, he received notification from a Swedish group supporting those who had been charged after the European Summit; there was supposedly an international arrest warrant for him for severe disorder and violence against a police officer, after some research it turned out that this warrant did in fact exist.

Although the case is hardly supported, although there is sufficient evidence of Maarten's innocence (video recordings and witnesses) and although all other 'foreigner' cases have been transferred to their own countries, Maarten is still waiting for extradition
and a trial in Sweden that he has probably already lost in advance. He lost his courtcase about the extradition, and the minister of Justice
Mr. Donner made his final decision, to extradite. Maarten was handed over to Swedish authorities on the 1st of September 2004, to undergo a almost certain unfair trial in Gothenburg.

The chance of Maarten getting a fair trial in Sweden is deemed to be minimal, according to his attorney and those who have been following the trials until now. The Gothenburg court has not been objective in comparable cases, relies on 'flawless' police witnesses who contradict one another as well as manipulated evidence and hands-out extremely high sentences (especially to witnesses whom they regard as 'political'). In short, it is more interested in setting examples than in justice. His Swedish attorney estimates Maarten's chance of getting justice in a higher appeal as practically nil.Maarten will not receive a fair trial in Sweden.

Therefore we demand freedom for Maarten. And a critical review of the 'political' trials in Gothenburg.

His trial date is now set for the 23th of september 2004, but this can still chance to an even earlier date. There is a big manifestation on the 23 th in favour of Maarten. Everybody who can make it there is more than welcome..."

Missouri Prison Labor Union (12/8/04)

Doug Oerly, a prisoner involved in the Missouri Prison Labor Union (set up to resist forced labour in prisons, which is exploiting prisoners and driving down pay and conditions for workers on the outside...) has been put in punishment isolation, often known as "The Hole". This occurred after a prison wide hunger strike, which Doug was unable to participate in due to health reasons...

The following is a suggested letter to the below-named prison and state officials regarding the unjust administrative segregation confinement of one of the MPLU members Douglas Oerly #38532 who was put in the hole for allegedly taking part in a prison-wide food strike. We are asking supporters to make copies of this campaign letter and mail it to these prison officials:

Governor Bob Holden State,Capital Building 201, West Capital Avenue, Jefferson City, MO 65 101

Gary Kempker, Director, Missouri Department of Corrections, P.O. Box 236, Jefferson City, MO 651Q1

George A. Lombardi Division Director, Missouri Department of Corrections, P.O. Box 236 ,Jefferson City, MO 65101

Michael Bowersox, Superintendent, South Central Correctional Center, 255 West Highway 32, Licking, MO 65542-9069

Representative Connie L. Johnson, Missouri House of Representatives, 201 West Capital Avenue, Jefferson City, M4 65101

Comrades, you can contact to Douglas at:

Douglas Oerly No. 38532, South Central Correctional Center, 255 West Highway 32, Licking, MO 65542-9069

So drop him a line or two to let him know you care!

To whom it may concern,
I am writing you on behalf of Douglas Oerly who is currently located at the Licking Prison and is being confined with 30 to 40 other prisoners in the hole, unjustly. Prison officials have targeted Douglas and others as allegedly being leaders of the food strike. On 5-28-04 Douglas was issued a false conduct violation report for Rule #9, Organized Disobedience. However, Douglas is a diabetic and must eat every meal along with inbetween-meal snacks in order to maintain and regulate his blood sugar, which he did do while the food strike was taking place. Douglas takes two insulin injections a day and cannot skip meals without becoming very sick and requiring hospitalization. Additionally. Douglas has been a diabetic for about 38 years and would not put his life at risk by participating in something like a food strike. Douglas has been requesting to take a lie detector test in order to prove his innocence. Douglas did not participate in nor did he have anything to do with the food strike and in fart Douglas refused to take part in the food strike for obvious reasons'I stand in support of Douglas Oerly and we protest this unjust and uncalled-for treatment that he is being subjected to when he did nothing and was not involved in this food strike at all. We are asking that this be investigated by your office and Douglas be cleared of any wrongdoing and that he be released from administrative segregation (the hole) immediately. I thank you for the help you provide in getting this matter resolved.
Cordially,

Eco-activist in danger(11/8/04)

This emergency alert is on behalf of imprisoned forest activist Tre Arrow, known to authorities as Michael Scarpitti. He is malnourished and jailers are abusing him in British Columbia, Canada. Tre's weight has dropped to 91 pounds. The jailers still refuse to provide him with raw vegan food (fruits and vegetables). The jail is punishing for supposedly "hoarding" food in his cell. (The food they found was his lunch, served by the jailers earlier that morning.) Tre is in segregation and locked down 23 hours a day. He must be released back into the general population. He has been subjected to an arbitrary "suicide watch," and harassment. The jailers have taken away his blankets. Tre says he can't go on like this much longer. After 10 years on a vegan raw food diet, cooked food makes him ill and he can't digest it. He is weak and near starving. He has requested that we email, write and call the Attorney General of British Columbia, Canada. Tre is known by his former name of Michael Scarpitti. He is being held at the North Fraser Pre-Trial Centre in Port Coquitlam, BC.

Mass house raids in Italy (29/7/04)

Yesterday many searches were carried out in the houses of about 40 comrades. 4 of them were taken to jail: Sergio, Simone, David e Marco. All of them are charged with the articles 270 and 270 bis: "subversive organization with terrorist purpose".The investigations started the 17th of July 2003, when a bomb exploded before the Spanish Institute "Cervantes", in Rome. This action was claimed with a communique by the "Cellule contro il Carcere, il Capitale, i Carcerieri e le loro Celle" (Cells against Jail, Capital, Warders and their Cells). The same investigation also dealt with some letter bombs (one of which exploded between the hands of the cop Sindona, who lost two fingers) and other explosive devices (for example those that exploded in Viterbo in front of the Court and the Justice Ministry) and the actions signed F.A.I. (Informal Anarchist Federation), such as the bomb letters sent to various European Union representatives. The arrests have been ordered on the basis of some interceptions and they're part of the repressive wave that during the last month has fallen on our
comrades. All our solidarity and love to these comrades, and to all people imprisoned in every kind of prison.
All our grudge and hate to the responsible and the executioners of the arrest of our comrades.
We don't forget! We don't forgive! FREEDOM FOR THE PRISONERS! FIRE TO THE PRISONS!

Resistance at Immigration Prison (26/7/04)

On 21st July, imprisoned refugees wrested control of Harmondsworth immigration removal centre from staff after a detainee was found hanged in his room. It is believed that the man, thought by campaigners to be of Kosovan origin, had just had bad news about his fight to stay in the UK. Prison officers in riot gear eventually regained control of the buildings but a tense stand-off involving about 80 detainees continued in a recreation yard until the afternoon. The detainees were then moved to other centres around the country or handed over to the police- the centre will remain shut for several weeks.
Discontent had been brewing at Harmondsworth; in May 220 detainees took part in a hunger strike, complaining about the length of time they were held, poor legal advice they were given and assaults by staff.

BACKGROUND INFO:

Close Down Harmondsworth Campaign

UKDS Detention Centre Harmondsworth near Heathrow Airport in London opened in September 2001 and holds up to 550 men, women and children. It is run by UK Detention Services (Sodexho) and functions as a detention and removal centre.

In the spring of 2002 construction was started on a second 550-place detention centre alongside the new centre. This will reportedly be modelled more on traditional prison lines with landings and so on. The Close Down Harmondsworth Campaign holds demonstrations at Harmondsworth and campaign meetings. Ongoing Genoa Trial (16/7/04)

July 2001... 2 days of heavy riots during the G8 summit. 2 days of clashes between police and demonstrators. Police brutality went so far that the leaders of the left wing organizations lost control over their processions. Thousands of pacifists took part in the clashes together with the rioters. Hundreds of banks, supermarkets, insurances and other symbols were attacked or set in fire, as well as the Massari prison. It would be useless to go further in the description. Everyone knows what happened. Everyone saw some of the numerous videos or read some of the reports about those days. It is important to remember the incredible level of repression unfolded durinf this summit : it left one demonstrator dead, hundreds injured, 590 arrested among whom a great number was tortured in a place planned especiallly for that use. The consequences go on today as the tentacule of the state called justice appears in this long theater play.

Italian justice is now organizing a gigantic trial to point out a few demonstrators as if they were responsible for the devastations carried out by thousands of people.

In december 2002 started the wave of repression with house searches and the arrest of many people. Judges are playing the old blackmail song : either you state the you condemn the Genoa riot and renounce violence, or you’ll be imprisonned. Some comrades spent almost a while year locked up for refusing to this so called choice. Later the Genoa court ordered the arrest of 23 demonstrators, among whom 5 stayed in prison for refusing the deal.

The trial started on june 2nd and 3rd. 25 demonstrators are charged with “devastation and looting”, which has been of very seldom use in italian history. It could lead to sentences of over 10 years. Hundreds of people are still under investigation. It looks like another gigantic trial should later take place involving the non-italian demonstrators.

A new crime just appeared in Italy that could be named “psychological participation/complicity”. It means basically that a protester not doing anything to prevent other demonstrators to commit crimes is also guilty... Guilty of not being the cop that this society is trying to transform all of us into.

The trial will continue on july 6th and 16th and then on september the 15th. It may last about 2 years.

We can also add that anti-terrorist paragraphs might be used during the Genoa trial. We’ve known since too long that italian justice uses anti-terrorists laws in any kind of circonstances...

The 270bis article is therefore designed to create a terrorist threat out of any political group.

The 41bis article is designed to push this treatment behind prison walls. It has been much used in the 80’s. Prisoners refusing to give up their ideas and past actions are kept under a vey strict regime involving higher level of mail control, restriction of visits (once a month and only with family), total isolation etc.

About the trial. It already looks like 2 different strategies of defense will be used :

- The Disobbdianti (Tutti Bianchi INC etc.) : 3 of them are charged. They say they used legitimate violence against police terror. Their leaders have always strongly slandered demonstrators using violence if there’s not enough police brutality to justify it.

- The demonstrators that started and kept on with rioting

Billy Cottrell Faces New Charges (22/7/04)

BILLY COTTRELL HAS NOW INFORMED ON OTHERS, AND HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM PRISONER SUPPORT LISTS. THE FOLLOWING IS FOR BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Free Billy Support Network has announced that new charges have been laid against American eco-activist, Billy Cottrell. All the new charges relate to the alleged use of "a destructive device during a violent crime (924c)".

Billy is accused of being the ring-leader of a series of ELF arsons. In a blatant attempt to try and get him to implicate others alleged to of also been involved, the authorities have threatened him with "life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted on all charges" if he doesn't start cooperating. Billy has always refused to cooperate with the authorities and they wish to make him suffer as a result.

23 year old Caltech PhD student, Billy Cottrell's, arrest in March 2004 was the latest in a string of reckless, desperate attempts by the FBI to apprehend those responsible for an ELF (Earth Liberation Front) action that occurred in late August involving southland SUV dealerships. On March 29th, Billy pled not guilty. Please let him know that we support him, are watching his case and are mobilising to get him out! Other ways you can help: Billy's trying desperately to recreate his library while incarcerated and would really like to receive articles on string theory and other topics in physics. Please photocopy or print up to 10 pages front and back (so 20 total) and mail them directly to him. He'd also appreciate paperback books sent directly from the publisher to the address at the bottom of this story.

Marco Camenisch (5/6/04)

In 1980 anarchist and eco-activist Marco Camenisch was arrested, and after a year being on remand, the court pronounced a 10 year prison sentence, for direct action against a pylon and a nuclear power station for ecological reasons. In 1981, together with 5 other prisoners, he escaped from prison- a prison warder died, another was seriously injured. Marco wasn't part of the group which shot them. After ten years of clandestine living and struggling, Swiss federal police and media claimed him responsible for the killing of a border police officer. After a shootout with the Carabinieri, he was arrested in 1992 in Italy, served 9 years and was extradited back to Switzerland, where he remains in prison. In 2004, he got a 17 year prison sentence for the murder of the border guard, though he always denied his involvement in the murder (see his statement before the court on freecamenish website). As he escaped from prison in 1981, he'll also have to serve the 8 years he had left when leaving with 5 fellows. The court didn't find him directly guilty of murdering the prison guard during the escape, but he was considered jointly responsible for it.

Repression at Mexican Summit (5/6/04)

The Third EU – LAC Conference (which attempts to make neo-liberal economic links between Latin America and the EU) in Guadalajara, Mexico, came to a tense end last week with a soft and indirect condemnation to the US military torture in Iraq, commercial agreements without popular support, violence against demonstrators at the end of the general demonstration and around 100 detainees and disappeared, as well as 30 injured. Mexican and international activists were physically and psychologically humiliated and maltreated by the police. Some were brutally beaten and taken into prison without receiving any medical attention. Most of those arrested were working with indigenous communities in Oaxaca and Chiapas. The government has imposed very high fines ranging from £1,000 to £1,300 for the Mexicans and stated that they will not be released until the fines are paid. Average wages in Mexico are about £2 a day, so the average person would have to work for about two years just to pay the fine, this equates to a fine of around £40,000 in relative UK terms. At the moment, the supporters know that there are 32 people still being held; some are on hungerstrike. For more information, and how to help,

Six anarchists arrested in spain (28/09/03)

Around 4 AM of Tuesday september 16th, the "Guardia Civil" (one of Spain´s police forces) arrested 6 people in Barcelona´s Ciutat Vella neighborhood and Horta-Guinardo district. Counterterrorist Legislation has been applied to them, so they are isolated. The arrested individuals are: Carolina F. R. and Rafael T. G. (of Tarragona), Joaquin G.V. (neighbor of Jaca, in Huesca´s province), Igor Q.A (neighbor of Arrasate, Guipuzkoa´s province); Teodoro H.M.(neigbor of Arnedo, La Rioja´s province) and Roger G.P. (of Barcelona) The Home Office version presents the arrested people as "a clandestine anarchist group" and tries to link them with a letterbomb sent to the Greek embassy in Madrid, and deactivated by police, and also with many sabotage actions referred by police as "Urban terrorism".

Solidarity actions and demonstrations have taken place in Barcelona, and many other demonstrations and fund-raising actions are being prepared.

Spanish anarchist convicted under terrorism laws (24/1/04)

After more than three years of judicial journeys (starting in November 2000) there´s finally a sentence for Eduardo Garcia, a Spanish anarchist accused of making and sending explosive devices. Since Eduardo was arrested he has been dealt with under the Counterterrorist Law and he has been sent to prison twice, for a total of 11 months and six days. The charges seemed to be falling apart one after another but finally he was judged on the charges of two attempted murders (he is accused of sending letter bombs to right wing journalists) and possession of explosives.
The trials began on Novermber 17th 2003 (the same day Eduardo "celebrated" his second anniversary on probation), with the public prosecutor demanding 22 years in jail. Finally, however, the verdict of the court was that Edu was acquitted of the accusations of attempted murder, but has been sentenced to 4 years in jail for the illegal possession of explosives

The frame-up has not yet been fully successful, since Edu can still appeal to the National Court (or even Supreme Court, if necessary) before entering prison

John Bowden asks for letter writing campaign(7/3/04)

The following is a letter campaign appeal on behalf of John Bowden, an anarchist and long time prison resister.
The Governor recently put a taped message on the front of prisoners phone calls warning whoever they called that the person making the call is an inmate in a maximum security prison. Her alleged reason for this is that she claims she has a duty to 'protect the public'. Their calls are already closely monitored and recorded, and all phone numbers are vetted and checked by the security department.
The imposition of the phone message would have a seriously detrimental effect on prisoners contact with their family and friends because they would now be reluctant to phone their wives and girlfriends, etc, at work or their children if they were in foster homes.
The governor, who recently imposed a 'no physical contact' rule on visits, has tried to argue that she is legally obliged to impose the phone message, which is not true as prisoners in the English system successfully challenged through the courts an attempt by the English Prison authorities to impose a similar phone message.(7/3/04)

Raise The Fist Webmaster Jailed! (05/08/03)

Sherman Austin, webmaster of the Raise the Fist website, was sentenced on August 4, 2003, to one year in federal prison, with three years of probation. Judge Wilson shocked the courtroom when he went against the recommendation of not only the prosecution, but the FBI and the Justice Department, who had asked that Austin be sentenced to 4 months in prison, and 4 months in a half-way house, with 3 years of probation.

Austin's probation stipulates, among other things, that (1) he cannot possess or access a computer of any kind without prior approval of his probation officer, (2) if his probation officer gives permission, the equipment is subject to monitoring and is subject to search and seizure at any time, without notice, (3) he cannot alter any of the software or hardware on any computer he uses, (4) he must surrender his phone, DSL, electric, and satellite bills, (5) he cannot associate with any person or group that seeks to change the government in any way (be that environmental, social justice, political, economic, etc.), and (6) he must pay over $2,000 in fines and restitution.

Attack on police station

Yesterday evening 24th,group of about.100 anarchists attacked a police station in central neighbourhood of Patissia.Stones and molotovs were thrown inside of the building, cars parked outside had been torched. It was a direct answer to revelations about the systematic torturing of Afghan refugees in this station.Unfortunately one comrade has been arrested, his condition is bad after beating by cops, and the charges put against him are heavy. His exact legal situation will be clear hopefully in few days.

Solidarity With Polykarpos Georgiadis

On 16th April 2004 civil police stopped anarchist Polykarpos Georgiadis on one of Thessaloniki´s streets and brought him to Police Headquarters.Just after several hours of his detention cops presented proudly to mass media their story, bragging about having"caught bomber in an act".Polykarpos is initially presented as being responsible for undefined number of arsons, that took place in the city and finally accused of arson attempt against car belonging to private security company, parked on the street where they caught him.
Himself he denies all the charges and clearly states, that as anarchist he´s police target and had been followed since longer.Even civil cops ,which arrested him are admitting that they know him because of his anarchist activities.Polykarpos points out, that he was arrested in spot which lays on his usual everyday´s route,so perfectly known to cops following him. His arrest is result of desparate and failed efforts of cops to clear out cases of arson,so cop story is full of elements that could help restoring their image:they speak about possible "cooperators" as to create image of "blasting whole group".Home-searches and intrusions in houses of comrades and friends of Polykarpos follow, yet cop story falls apart.Even remaining initial accusation done by cops themselves -"caught in an act"-have little validity,as they are incapable of presenting any proofs(delay mechanisms,etc.).Still,20th April he is put in jail ,till the trial ,on bases of constructed accusation, then brought to prison of Koridallos in Athens, where he remain till today.Polykarpos send few open letters, that had been printed in anarchist publications. Some excerpts:"...In this war we must take position. The silence,as well as non-participation are way of accepting what´s going on.The ones which don´t fight, the "innocent ones" are also killers. In this conflict nobody´s innocent.War doesn´t stop just by loosening your handcuffs.Destroy all prisons, visible and invisible ones.Solidarity with struggles against "white cells"(solitary confinement units, since years functioning in Germany or Spain against political prisoners, but only recently introduced in Greece in process of standardisation across the EU). Resist society, that creates prisons!"After few months Georgiadis was able to appeal for releasement. In September ,Vice-Chief of Thessaloniki Police asked for a DNA-specimen of Georgiadis hair, supposebly to compare with DNA probes found on spot of similar as he´s accused of,actions. This demand froze the legal procedure of deciding on his further imprisonment.DA District Attorney initially agreed to release Polykarpos, yet Appeal Council rejected it ,as well as rejected cop´s demand for DNA-probe.All this proofs only, that state´s intention is anyhow to keep Georgiadis in prison. Some demonstrations and numerous attacks(eg.many arsons) took place in solidarity with Polykarpos Georgiadis. The best form of solidarity withimprisoned anarchists is always continuing, spreading and escalating the struggle!

Xose Tarrio dies (4/1/05)

Today we've received sad news about the death of our libertarian comrade Xosé Tarrío. After various months in a coma at a hospital in Coruna, Xosé is finally free, no more prison, no more torture, humiliations. Left for us is his immensely humane story, full of successes and mistakes, left for us is one person`s dignity, a weather-beaten human face of the fight for life in a prison hell.. Doctors said that Xosé was ill, and we say that this society is ill, He did not die, he was murdered. Today was him, tomorrow somebody else, and like this every day. We can`t do anything else for him but keep his ideas in our hearts and actions, elbow against elbow and fist against fist, until we demolish the prison walls. This will be our Homage.

"Now he is immobilized in a hospital and there`s silence, and in this silence there`s his voice, the words that Xose doesn`t say are told by
his eyes, by his expression". Lucía

Polish anti-fascist faces prison sentence (20/12/04)

Patryk Cichon, anti-fascist from Stalowa Wola and animator of RASH (Red&Anarchist Skinheads) had been sentenced to 3 years of jail fro alleged assault and robbery. However, he remains free on bail until his appeal against the sentence is heard.
It is clear to us that all case had been based on his political beliefs from the very beginning. Patryk is well know anti-fascist and anarchist, notorious among nazi-bonehead scum in his city fro his uncompromising and militant stand against them in the past. Boneheads managed to convince few of their friends to testify against Patryk and his friend in alleged case of assault and robbery. As it appeared later, his friend had very good alibi and was aquitted, so Patryk ended up as superman sentenced for beating 4 people on his own so badly, that he was even able to take their wallets afterwards!
Patryk appealed this decision and another trial will take place on the beginning of 2005. Adding to that he has 300 euro fine to pay for assault on police officer (average 2 monthly wages in Poland). We cant really do much to help him with his trial but we can support him financially in this hard moment. It is necessary to show our solidarity to people who dared to stand against nazi menace and show them that they are not alone! If you want to help Patryk you can send some money to his bank account- every little bit counts!

News from Poland (10/1/05)

Polish ABC news

ANTIFA 5 trial unfortunately still continues. Despite of acquital by judge of all 5 defendants, both prosecutor and nazi shithead that accused
anarchist filed an appeal what means another trial. This farce already goes on for 3 years and it seems that prosecution is really determined to prove those charged guilty. For us it is clear sign of repression, which easied a bit last year but is still exsisting.

Lapa, anarchist from Bialystok sentenced to 1 year of jail on grevious body harm charges filed an appeal and was finally acquited after 3
years of court hearings and lots of money being spent in his defence. We welcomed this verdict with relief, as Lapa was very close to jail
sentence, especially taking in account that he has suspended sentence for other antifascist actions.

Soja, anarchist from Bialystok, had his trial opened again. Charges are "violently resisting arrest" and two counts of "insulting a police
officer". Charges are related to police raid on DeCentrum squat in bialystok 3 years ago. Process was stopped before due to lack of possibility to interrogate all wintesses, but now police finished new investigation and sent case to court again.

5 people who took part in anarchist action against visit of Russian diplomat in Poznan in September 2004, when a convoy of diplomatic cars was attacked by anarchists, have been finally sentenced by local courts to fines for breaking of public order (all people got between 30 and 65
euro. It is definitely not such bad end, as for action like this they could face criminal offences. There are few more people, that are charged for
same event and going to have trials soon.

Prisoner in Poland asks for support (18/1/05)

Sebastian Ksiazek is serving a 6 year sentence for alleged armed robbery of a shop (seems that shop was belonging to policeman) and stealing ammo and surveilance equipment from there.
He is interested in any anarchist and punk literature and can understand pretty much English and Russian.
Recently he has been having somef problems with the prison authorities for receiving some anarchist magazines (after the last issue of Akcja Bezposrednia, kind of Polish Class War equivalent, he was acused of trying to organize sabotage in prison, however ridiculous it sounds...) but he is in good spirits. Its possible that he will be released on parole in next few months, but its not sure yet.

We would like to have you on our list of contacts to keep you informed of any developments and to have as an emergency contact for urgent information.

Luke Woodyard (luke@skorga.org) CIPO - RFM English corespondent

CIPO - RFM- Who we are and why we fight:

The Consejo Indígena Popular de Oaxaca "Ricardo Flores Magón" CIPO-RFM is the house of the poor fighting against injustice. We are an organization of communities that use non-violent resistance. Our strength lies in helping each
other, and in our independence from all political parties, legal or secret, and from all the institutions and organizations of the government. The activities of CIPO-RFM are the outcome of agreements achieved in meetings, thus we all share the successes and failures. CIPO currently represents 24 communities of Chatin, Mixtec, Chinantec, Cuicatec, Zapotec, Mixe, Triqui, black or half-caste villages.
In Mexico and particularly in Oaxaca, the Consejo Indigena Popular de Oaxaca "Ricardo Flores Magon" (CIPO-RFN) is one of the most repressed organizations by the police and paramilitary. Until today the numbers are this: 517 detentions and tortured people, 103 police and paramilitary incursions on our communities, 81 orders for prison, 229 penal, civil and commercial processes, 263 people assaulted, 37 death threats, 27 murders, was one of our members Raul Gatica, lives in hiding with international observers after several attempts on his life.

The government is violent towards us because they are afraid of what we stand for. Peaceful coexisting autonomous self sufficient communities. Our mission is the free association of our people exercising autonomous and direct action, like the Magonist way, in order to

(1) Help the people and workers of the world organize themselves freely even though they may not be a member of CIPO - RFM.

(2) To promote publicise, capacitate, and defend the territorial, economic, social, political and cultural rights of communities and individuals

(3) To advise and accompany communities, organizations and individuals whether indigenous or not, who solicit our support in their struggles.

(4) Implement sustainable projects (productions, commercial etc) that allow the integral development of (indigenous) communities, minding ecosystems and respecting the people therein

(5) Investigate, document, analyze and publicize the movements of indigenous peoples.

(6) Compromise with the conservation of the land, and care for nature in order to revalue the vision of our peoples.

(7) Develop alternative media/communications via radio, TV, and the Internet etc.

(8) Put in to practice concrete actions to win back the respect for women, minors, and minorities.

We chose to use the name of Ricardo Flores Magon because he was indigenous, fought for freedom, and all though he was from Oaxaca, his heart, thoughts and work was for the liberations of all people of the world. Adopting Magon´s principles represents that we fight without searching for material riches or personal benefit but rather to banish arrogance, authoritarianism, and lies. It also represents we aren´t seeking power over others, nor imposing ourselves on anyone. Using mutual support as our base, solidarity, direct action, and autonomy as our path to liberation.

Today our demands of the government are:

(1) Peace with justice and dignity

(2) Respect for the autonomy of our communities in CIPO RFM

(3) The end of paramilitary activities of the CROCUT and the punishment of leaders Ceasar Tomil and Jacobo Chavez, that on the 16th of October 2003 killed Bartolome Sales and shot 9 other men and women, punishment of Antorcha Campensina who on the 11th of August 2002 murdered two children and hurt 34 women, and justice for those killed on the 13th of March and 12th of July 2004 in Sta Lucia Monterverde where two other persons were murdered.

(4) The end of oppression against the continuities and members of CIPO RFM, and to follow the recommendations (CNDH/29/99), (CEDDH/15/2002), and (CEDH/13/2004) to respect our human rights.

(5) Freedom for our brothers and sisters: Dolores Villalobos Cuamatzin, Miguel Cruz Moreno, Leonor López Alavez (aged 15), Reynaldo Feria Hernández, Gumaro López Alavez, Carmen López Pérez, Kalid Pérez Gómez (aged 17), Margarita García García, Habacuc Cruz Cruz, Gildardo Pérez Gómez (aged 17), Hipolito Rodríguez Soriano, José Cruz Cruz, Abel Ramírez Ramírez, Guadalupe García García and
Mauro García García, members of the Organizing Committe of the grassroots Council of the CIPO-RFM, democratic workers of the "tres poderes" syndicate.

(6) A solution multilateral solution to the agricultural problems of San Isidro Aloapam, Sta Catarina Yosonotu, Guadalupe Chindua and Cacalotepec.

(7) Garenties for the life of Raul Gatica.

(8) General meeting, democratic elections and respect for the social givings that have been suspended for two years to the workers of STSPEIDEO

(9)Municipal participation plus schools, doctors, water, food, electricity, and care for old and disabled.

(10) The right to live and sell on the Huatulco beaches.

(11) Respect to the Radia "Guestza" and the concession for the transport of suburban in Tlaxiaco.

Assaults and deaths have been the consequences recently of peaceful protests: July 10 2004 in Sta Elta, Edgar Torija was mortally wounded, July 11th 2004 in Sta Cruz Huatulco people of the PRI directed by Demetrio Villalobos hurt 8 people, among them the children Carolina and Sandra Diaz Hernandez and Brenda Torres. On the 13th of July 2004 Paramilitaries Murdered Pedro Cruz Salazar of Sta Lucia Monteverde, on July 16 2004 in the dance square in Oaxaca, special forces, and police directed by Jose M Vera Satinas and Manuel Moreno Rivas,
using gas and electric batons hospitalized Elizabeth Perez, Adelfa Perez, Simon Yilescas, Fluvia Dominguez, Gloria Ramos, Milisa Flores and Rolando Zeferino. The government believes if they attack and intimidate us we will stop fighting. But these events have only strengthened our determination and will to continue to struggle.

Solidarity action in Moscow(16/02/05)

10 AM in the morning 15th of February, activists of FrontAIDS (Russian ACT UP! equivalent) and Moscow anarchists blocked the entrance of the ministry of (in)justice in Moscow. A video about action has been uploaded to Bulgarian indymedia (windows media9, 3.5 Mb).
http://bulgaria.indymedia.org/usermedia/video/3/f15m-005.wmv

This was a solidarity action with HIV infected inmates in colony #1 of Ryazan oblast, who recently staged a hunger strike in order to demand access to drugs. The prisoner protest was repressed brutally by special forces, and currently all prisoners in the colony are held incommunicado - we do not know what is going on there.

All arrested were passed by FSB to police station #2 of Moscow.9 persons arrested at the ministry of (in)justice were sentenced to fines of 500 rubles right away, but for unknown reasons they were transferred back to police station from the court. When HIV positive activists had been denied access to drugs for more than 12 hours and police began threating to beat them up if they continue protests, one activist who had came from St. Petersburg sliced her wrist artery open with a broken bottle as a protest. After this, police was ready to let everybody go. At first, there were problems to stop bleeding due to lack of hemoglobine, but luckily there were paramedics in the same police station looking for an overdose victim, and now everybody is all right.

June 2005 marks the five-year anniversary of the imprisonment of our friend and comrade: Oregon environmental political prisoner, Jeff "Free" Luers. Jeff was sentenced to more than 22 years in prison for burning three Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) at a car dealership in Eugene, Oregon, Prior to his arrest, Jeff was a popular community activist in Eugene. He was well-known to law enforcement because of his involvement with national forest protection (starting an occupation of a controversial old-growth timber sale in 1998), anti-police brutality activism (documenting rampant police abuse in Eugene), free food programs in a local park and his teaching of self-defense to women. Since his imprisonment, Jeff has continued to be extremely active in prison and fight oppression with his words and inspiration.

US eco prisoner news (04/05/05)

MORE ECO-ARRESTS IN AMERICA

In early March 2005 Americans Jeremiah Colcleasure and two sisters Eva &
Lili Holland were arrested accused of involvement in a series of ELF arsons/attempted arsons against housing developments. Eco-Remand prisoner Ryan Lewis is also accused of involvement in the arsons/attempted arsons. According to the mainstream media reports, Jeremiah Colcleasure and Lili Holland have both admitted trying to burn down two empty homes in an upscale housing development. The media also reported that Jeremiah and Lili implicated Eva & Ryan in these and other actions. The charges against all four are as follows: All four have been charged with the attempted arsons on the two houses. Eva & Ryan have also been charged with an attempted arson on an office building. And Ryan alone has had an additional charge placed against him of setting fire to an apartment complex.Following their arrests Colcleasure was granted bail. On the 11th of February 2005, ELP reported the news that an American environmentalist, Ryan Lewis, had been remanded accused of arson and attempted arson. ELP received the following e-mail from one of Ryan's supporters.

Updates and Information on Ryan Lewis's Case and How To Support Him

Federal Grand Jury convened to invesitgate case and area anarchists. On Tuesday February 8 the FBI arrested Newcastle resident Ryan Daniel Lewis in connection with a recent ELF action. Lewis is being charged
with arson and attempted arson of a commercial building. Since the end of December three ELF actions have occurred in the Sacramento area. Two attempted arsons at developments in Auburn and Lincoln were claimed by an ELF communiqué sent to the Auburn Journal
and the Sacramento Bee. A third successful arson at an apartment complex
in Sutter Creek was discovered with graffiti that said "WE WILL WIN-ELF". Lewis is charged only with the attempted arson in Auburn and the FBI continues to investigate all three incidences. Lewis was arraigned Thursday and appointed a federal public defender. The FBI has yet to reveal what evidence, if any, it has against Lewis. The criminal complaint against him and the search warrant were sealed in US
District court in Sacramento. Lewis's case is being prosecuted by US Attorney McGregor Scott.
Scott, who once commanded an infantry unit on the streets of LA during the 1992 riots, has made a name for himself as District Attorney of Shasta County and a member of the board of directors of the California District Attorneys Association. Scott made news last May when he testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee asking them to expand the scope of 18 U.S.C. Section 43 (covers "animal enterprise terrorism") to ban the legal activities of groups like Stop Huntington Animal Cruelty. The FBI investigation into the ELF actions is ongoing.
